A 17 years old teen got 30 million $ from Yahoo! The reason it’s incredible!
A 17 years old teen got 30 million $ from Yahoo after he sold his startup, called Summly. His name is Nicik D’Aloisio and now he’s one of the richest teens in the world.
Before getting shut down by Yahoo, Summly was a very clever app, from my point of view. It’s purpose was to skim the world’s sources of news, and redistribute them to the readers in a new innovative and personalized way. There are rumors that the deal is quite odd, and here a few of the reasons:
- the app, Summly, did not have too many users or any revenue, and Yahoo is buying the app only to shut it down – their argument for this is that they want Summly’s CEO to lead the company in mobile.
- Summly’s CEO lives in London where he’s studying (10000 miles away);
- the CEO is only 17 years old and I don’t think he’s able to lead or inspire adult Yahoo engineers;
Whatever might be the reason, we have to remember it’s Yahoo we’re talking about, and to be honest 30 million $ it’s not a big deal for them to spend. One way or another, Nicik D’Aloisio is a 17 years old teen got 30 million $ from Yahoo.
